    뇌종양과 신경퇴행성질환 신경외과 연구실
    (Neurosurgical Research Laboratory of Brain Tumor and Neurodegenerative diseases)

    연구목표: 임상적 관심의 주된 분야는 뇌심부자극술, 뇌종양, 감마나이프 방사선수술을 포함하는 stereotactic functional neurosurgery들이다. 본 실험실의 주된 관심은 종양 발달, 뇌종양의 악성 변형에 관한 연구와 신경줄기세포의 세포생물학에 관한 연구뿐만 아니라 새로운 항암제 개발과 다양한 뇌질환에 관한 잠재적인 치료제 개발에 있다.

    연구내용: 우리 연구의 많은 부분은 뇌종양 환자의 임상적인 정보에 관한 상관관계가 있는 종양 발달과 종양 진행의 조기진단마커와 진행마커를 발견하기 위하여 수술장에서 받은 수천 개의 뇌종양 조직을 모아 뱅킹하는 데 있다. Next Generation Sequencing와 Single cell RNA Sequencing을 사용하여 뇌종양에 관한 유전체학을 연구하기 위하여 다양한 뇌종양의 일차세포배양을 진행하고 있다. 또한 다양한 뇌종양의 일차세포배양을 사용하여 뇌종양 발달 과정에서의 근본적인 기전을 조사하기 위한 연구도 진행하고 있다.

    미국 잭슨 랩 유전의학 연구소 (The Jackson Lab for Genomic Medicine)의 로엘 페어락 박사 (Dr. Roel Verhaak)와 함께 “신경교종 진행은 유전적 진화와 미세 환경 상호 작용에 의해 형성된다 (Glioma progression is shaped by genetic evolution and microenvironment interactions)”의 연구 논문을 공동으로 저술하여 국제 저명 학술지 ‘CELL’ (IF: 41.582) online판 최신호에 발표하였다. 본 공동연구팀의 결과로, “종양세포가 유전, 미세환경적 요인에 의해 변화한다” 는 사실을 바탕으로 난치성 질환으로 알려졌던 신경교종의 치료반응 예측 모델을 구축할 수 있음을 기대한다.
